CMD Forthcoming Publications

A Cross-Atlantic Dialogue:  Theoretical and Methodological Developments in the Study of International Migration.  Special issue of the International Migration Review (Fall 2004) based on a conference under the same title held at Princeton University in May of 2004.  Edited by Alejandro Portes and Josh DeWind of the Social Science Research Council, this issue features articles by U.S. and European scholars on immigrant political incorporation, the role of the state, immigrant entrepreneurship, and other current topical issues.

The Second Generation in Early Adulthood:  Findings from the Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study (CILS).  Special issue of Ethnic and Racial Studies (forthcoming 2005).  Based entirely on data from CILS, articles in this issue explore various aspects of the process of second generation adaptation among young adults and their determinants.  Topics discussed include educational and occupational attainment, family incomes, premature parenthood and arrest and incarceration.  Edited by Alejandro Portes and Ruben G. Rumbaut, University of California-Irvine.

Out of the Shadows:  Political Action and the Informal Economy in Latin America.  Pennsylvania State University Press (2005).  This volume is based on proceedings from a CMD-sponsored conference under the same title held at Princeton University in the summer of 2001.  Edited by Patricia Fernandez-Kelly and Jon Sheffner, University of Tennessee, the book brings together theoretical articles on the interactions between the state and the informal economy as well as empirical material on the evolution of the informal economy and its relationship to popular political mobilization throughout the region.
