CMD regularly invites scholars from around the world to undertake research activities that will enhance their current scholarly work. These individuals include senior scholars spending a sabbatical year as well as current graduate students and new post-doctoral candidates.

We welcome these new fellows for 2009-10:

Fuat Güllüpinar is a PhD candidate from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.  During his stay at the CMD, he will be working under the supervision of Patricia Fernandez-Kelly on the identity construction process of third generation children of Turkish immigrants in Germany.  The focus of his research will be on the opportunities and constraints provided by the concepts of multiple-identity, bilingualism, discrimination, xenophobia, and generational, cultural and local affiliations and sense of belonging.

Sonia Parella, Visiting Fellow, Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB), Spain. She is currently focusing on the determinants of occupational trajectories of Latin American immigrant women in Barcelona, Spain. While at the CMD, she will begin a comparative study of the American and Spanish experiences to identify the structural macro factors that are most relevant for analysis of the economic position and occupational mobility among Latin American women, through a gender perspective.
